Dulux Let’s Colour initiative gave a rejuvenating makeover to SMK Seri Titiwangsa, a renowned state sports school for the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This remarkable transformation involved a brand-new coat of paint and vibrant murals depicting the school environment, all aimed at motivating students toward sporting excellence.
Legacy of Sporting and Academic Excellence
Established in 1968, SMK Seri Titiwangsa stands among 15 state-owned sports schools in Malaysia that focus on cultivating future sports talents. With a rich history spanning over half a century, the school offers a wide range of local sports disciplines, particularly emphasizing football, netball, athletics, hockey, ‘sepak takraw’, and the traditional martial art of ‘silat’ for selected students from across the country.
Notably, the school achieved an impeccable 100% pass rate for the Malaysian Certificate of Education (‘Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia’ or SPM) in both 2021 and 2022. Throughout its history, SMK Seri Titiwangsa has consistently produced highly talented athletes who competed at the national level.
Vibrant Makeover for Learning and Inspiration
Despite numerous upgrades and enhancements to its buildings and facilities, certain school structures urgently required repair due to visible cracks, algae growth, and peeling paint on their exterior walls. Recognizing the profound impact of the school environment on student behavior, motivation, and performance, Dulux stepped in to rejuvenate and revitalize the school. This endeavor involved 45 AkzoNobel volunteers who worked together to repaint multiple school blocks with vibrant colors and adorn them with sports-themed murals, using approximately 2,500 liters of paint.
The exterior walls received a makeover using Dulux Weathershield Powerflexx, an innovative exterior paint equipped with Triple Defense Technology. This technology ensures the paint can withstand harsh climates and extreme weather conditions, providing long-lasting protection with a guarantee of up to 12 years, thereby minimizing the need for frequent repainting.
Coloring Education and Dreams
However, this transformation went beyond just a lick of paint; it had a meaningful impact on the 328 students and 46 teachers. With the aim of creating an environment that promotes both the physical well-being and intellectual growth of the students, Dulux curated an educational color palette for the exterior walls, stairs, and corridors of SMK Seri Titiwangsa.
In the upcoming stages of the Let’s Colour program, Dulux will focus on painting the remaining school blocks at SMK Seri Titiwangsa. At the same time, other opportunities will be explored to extend the Let’s Colour efforts to other regions in Malaysia.
