The old water tower in Charleroi is a symbol of the past and of the future. It was a key part of the old industrial site in the city and is now being used to supply water to local businesses.

To teach youngsters in Charleroi the history of their city local historian Andre Lierneux and his wife Béatrice called on them to help add colour to the city’s iconic water tower.

The tower, known locally as ‘The Torch of Passion’, which can be seen from all over the city, is now an unmissable yellow beacon on the city’s skyline, and underlines the city’s progress.

The new look water tower has encouraged others in the city to continue to add colour to Charleroi.
