Happy ending for the residents of a rundown neighborhood in Tunisia thanks to the “Our city meets us” project. After a complete renovation, an ancient medina became a vibrant place where locals enjoy socializing. Miss Tunisia and our brand Astral were partners on this exciting and life-changing project.

“Hay Bouslama” district before the renovation

The Bouslama neighborhood was craving for transformation: dilapidated walls, broken doors and windows, and even the arc for which the old town of Beja was in a deplorable state. Also, the stairs were in such a bad condition people couldn’t walk safely, which only contributed to the unpleasant living atmosphere.

Beauty meets the beast

After Miss Tunisia got to know the living situation of people in Bouslama, she approached our brand Astral for support. To achieve the goal of a complete transformation, we have donated 700 liters of paint and gathered a couple of our employees to help with painting activities. Although what made this project truly special is the full participation of locals. Together, we have managed to transform 20 houses and 66 steps in the “Hay Bouslama” district.

The residents used to describe their neighborhood by using the word “wreck”. Today, they think their district looks like a painting. Living in a painting – sounds quite magical?!

A touch of paint as a touch of change

The renovation never ends just with the obvious, material results. The best things in life aren’t things, which is why every transformation of this type brings more heartfelt results. After an evident change in the walls and stairs, people became more optimistic and cheerful when it comes to their future. Their overall sense of security increased, and they became more willing to socialize than they were.

However, the locals are not the only ones who will have the opportunity to enjoy in this vibrant neighborhood. The “Hay Bouslama” district is now an attractive touristic destination, thanks to the significant media coverage and social media reactions.
