More than 150 unemployed people have participated in the Empowering Jobless event in Pisangan Baru, Matraman Jakarta. AkzoNobel have provided painting training for the men and training in arts and crafts for the women.

The event lasted for four days – three days of painting training and one day of arts and crafts training. The response was very positive and the participants left full of enthusiasm following a combination of theoretical and practical sessions. The participants all have a great desire to find employment however previously lacked the necessary skills and experience. This training has enabled them to develop useful and marketable skills to help to boost their employability.

In Indonesia, a key painting period is prior to Hari Raya festival, so we believe that the men will have an immediate opportunity to put their skills to use during this time. The women have developed useful skills in the field of arts and crafts, for example they are now able to convert disused coffee sachets into bags or pouches.

Painting projects and street painting can really bring positivity and joy to the community, so check out all of the Let’s Colour activities around the world!
