Adding color to Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea

A splash of paint and abundance of positive energy can do wonders. That is exactly what our Taubmans team has proven. By transforming 25 neglected bus stations in the capital of Papua New Guinea, we have not only made them look better, but we have also infused the city with joy and optimism.

A splash of paint and abundance of positive energy can do wonders. That is exactly what our Taubmans team has proven. By transforming 25 neglected bus stations in the capital of Papua New Guinea, we have not only made them look better, but we have also infused the city with joy and optimism.

Saying goodbye to graffiti

Port Moresby, the capital of Papua New Guinea, just like many other cities across the world, wasn’t immune to graffiti. Therefore, to send a clear message to stop graffiti and keep the city clean, Taubmans created a Let’s Colour community project and branding collaboration with Amazing Port Moresby. Our mutual goal was to help Port Moresby become a cleaner, safer, and happier place for its residents.

Enthusiastic and hopeful, more than 15 employees and people from the local community worked in sync to repaint the city’s weak spots and transform them into colorful areas.

Turning bus stations into vibrant oasis

Before the transformation, bus stations were covered with graffiti and people reported they don’t feel safe in such an environment. So, we kicked in. It took us 17 days, 300 liters of paint, and 40 people to make this environment bright and clean.

To do that, we have utilized bright blue and sunny yellow. Blue is known as a color that evokes feelings of peace and serenity, while yellow represents pure joy and enthusiasm. These two colors combined, helped us both to resolve safety concerns and to uplift Port Moresby residents.

In a survey conducted after the project, we found that people in the local community felt much safer in their neighborhood. Moreover, they were surprised by the positive impact paint can have.

Together for happier and safer communities

Partnerships have never been more important. So, after the Let’s Colour project was done, city manager Bernard Kipit acknowledged Taubmans for accepting to partner up with the National Capital District Commission (NCDC) through Amazing Port Moresby. Together, we have proved that when we work with each other the sky is the limit.
