Women in Wad Ras Prison Help their Children add Colour to their Lives

Nearly 200 women in Barcelona’s Wad Ras Prison changed their daily routine for a day and joined the Let’s Colour project to transform the walls of the prison’s mother’s unit and the children’s playground.

The exceptionally talented illustrator Antonio Fernández-Coca, who had previously taken part in projects to illustrate children’s hospitals, joined the project in Wad Ras.

He designed a colorful children’s playground imitating the sea with fish, starfish and octopus with lots of different colours. The final result was really spectacular!

Other common areas of the prison were also painted changing “grey” walls into gorgeous colourful places. Not only have we experienced the regenerating power of colour in the walls of the prison, we’ve also seen it change people’s mood and willingness to transform their lives.

It was a great day painting with the women of Wad Ras. Transforming the place where they live and their children will be growing up in with colour.
