Re-usable colourful wall art

Posted 01:22 PM by Rebecca Campbell

Loving these funky and cute wall transfers by Chinese/Australian illustrator Yiying Lu. If you think her style seems a little bit familiar, it’s because Yiying is actually the illustrator behind Twitter.com’s Fail Whale icon. So cute. She’s just started to bring her illustrations to the new medium of wall transfers. They look great on top of a bold and confidently coloured painted wall like. I want to say that they’d be perfect in a little girl’s or boy’s room… but actually, I think I want some of the little birds for my hallway!

Here’s how she describes this new medium: “Brilliant colours. Re-positionable. Premium wall graphics from LTL PRINTS bring my art to an accessible new medium. Truly Art for Everyone!”

Yiying’s prints come in lots of different sizes (from laptop-size up to seven feet tall), are self-adhesive and will stick to almost any surface (walls, windows, even ceilings! love ceiling colour!), and can be removed and re-hung 100 times without leaving a mark or damaging your walls… which means you can change your wall colour and then re-stick on.

Prices start at $14.95 for laptop-sized graphics, to LTL PRINTS’ signature 7 foot tall ‘larger-than-lifesize’ wall graphics, for $149.95.

Paint palette explosion: the work of a colour obsessed artist

Posted 04:57 PM by Rebecca Campbell

Copenhagen’s Kunsthal Charlottenborg was taken over by colour obsessed Danish artist, Malene Landgreen, where, in the words of WeHeart: “she indulged her fondness for a healthy dose of Dulux moved far beyond the conventional frames of painting”.

When speaking of her work she says that it “derives meaning from the fact that the uncertain, abstract, unformulated, chaotic and inharmonious, no less than the well-ordered, well-considered and flawless, always relates proportionally to something else. No matter how incomprehensible and ungraspable it might be, indeed precisely because it is. It’s all about relations and proportions. That applies in art, in architecture and in life”. Nice.

A love letter for you

Posted 03:59 PM by Rebecca Campbell

There’s nothing better than finding a little love note on your pillow, in your lunch or tucked inside a shoe. This public art project (Love Letter) let’s everyone in the city of Philadelphia discover one every day. The note writer is New York artist Stephen Powers. Growing up, he used the hometown walls of Philadelphia as his canvas. Decades later, he has come full circle using colour, walls and shapes to create this wonderful mural art project called Love Letter. Over a quick 3 weeks, he lead a team of 40 painters to transform and reclaim the space of 50 rooftop and street level walls with a little note of love. And we just love it. Here are some of our favourites. Spread that colour and love.

Mood lighting – colourful Night Light tables

Posted 01:52 PM by Rebecca Campbell

These Night Light Tables are pretty cool. They’re the result of designers Charlie Crowther-Smith and Richard Bannister coming together. Available in a rainbow of colours, each of them release a unique rosy glow to help you see in the dark. Or you could always just use it as mood lighting like the CitizenM hotel in Amsterdam. Love it.

The yellow house of Vincent Van Gogh

Posted 02:29 PM by Rebecca Campbell

I just love this picture by Sator Arepo. It shows the wonderful cheery impact one colourful home can have in one very lovely shot. Upon a second closer look I discovered that the yellow house reflected was actually  the home of Vincent Van Gogh! One of my favourite artists, when I think of Van Gogh, colour is the first thing that comes to mind. Sunflowers, fields, chairs and portraits. Even the darkest of paintings use colour to express, uplift and move the viewer. The colours and textures are so intense and unique that it is hard not to delve into the thick slathers of colourful paint. To think that his home still stands tall as a reminder of how he embraced colour in his life is such a special and uplifting thought.

Colour IQ test

Posted 02:52 PM by Rebecca Campbell

Did you know that 1 in 12 men and 1 in 255 women have some sort of colour vision deficiency? That’s huge. Check out your colour IQ with the colour IQ test. I don’t normally like these quizzy things but this one is actually a lot of fun. You have to order the colours in order of hues. The more perfect you get, the smarter you are. I found it quite therapeutic to do actually. I got 11. Have a go and see how much smarter than me you are!

Colourful home away from home

Posted 11:44 AM by Rebecca Campbell

Loving this colourful fairytale like design for the new Inntel Hotel in Zaandam – just outside Amsterdam. Designed by WAM architecten they chose the iconic colours of green and blue on traditional wooden homes sporadically stacked on top of each other, give the feeling of the hotel being a home away from home. Staying here would be such an amazing experience. It’s what dreams are made of. Makes me think of a miracle landing of homes after the hurricane in the Wizard of Oz…. in technicolour! So random and colourful and cool.
